Whether the fuel storage is an underground container, a portable bowser, or even a number of containers in a shed, assuming that we can reach it, we could certainly drain it.

AdBlue In Diesel

In Cheshire we are encountering progressively more examples of AdBlue contamination where a driver has put AdBlue into their diesel tank. This is in part as a result of drivers not being totally sure the way to to make use of (note: it is in actual fact not a fuel additive), and in part simply because the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are normally directly close to each other on the car.

Now, precisely what is the matter with having AdBlue in a diesel vehicle?

Seeing that the product is mainly deionised water, it is actually as bad as pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water will not mix at all and attempting to run a diesel car on water will not work. In addition, the urea is very corrosive to the fuel system hoses and seals and is prone to crystalising, obstructing injectors and filters. If perhaps you put AdBlue into the fuel tank empty it as quickly as possible. And obviously do not start the vehicle - not even to move it off of the pump. If you have started the car you will almost certainly need to have the entire fuel system purged and filters changed out.

If you discover yourself to be in this predicament don’t fret or panic! Contact us, the UK’s Premium fuel contamination service. Our engineers possess the practical knowledge and working experience to have you back on the road rapidly and efficiently, no mess, no fuss.

Ahhh, that was a fantastic night of sleep! Wrong Fuel in Car London - Petrol in Diesel Car Wardle Bank

I am not necessarily overly enthusiastic about doing work weekends, and a couple weeks ago was no different. I'd only just departed the wife and kids following a superb roast made for us by the better half, and I was off to sort out a gentleman because he filled the incorrect fuel in his blue Fiat Scudo. He was stationed in Wardle Bank thus I was with him rapidly. As I drove up at the vehicle and got out he said to me "Praise God! I incredibly had my attention on other considerations and didn't grasp that I have put the wrong fuel in my petrol vehicle. Have I brought about any kind of damage simply by running it?" I revealed truth be told there should not be any kind of problems and that also I would personally get the fuel drained at once. Obviously I removed the fuel from the vehicle and filled up with some correct fuel, and thus yet another pleased motorist could continue his journey without the difficulty. He did not stop thanking me, and that is exactly what can make working on weekends in Cheshire that little easier in my opinion!

Wrong Fuel Doctor Wardle Bank - Fuel Rescue Wardle Bank

This was what we call the night shift. It was roughly 3am and hardly anyone was about. It had become rather quiet until now, and Ray and I were relaxing perusing a couple of old newspapers. This was a rare restful moment in Cheshire. It was indeed so peaceful that when the telephone rang I jumped with surprise! The voice on the opposite end explained: "I have finished my night shift and foolishly poured petrol in my metallic silver Chrysler PT Cruiser". I asked him to inform us where exactly he was and we left, reaching him in Wardle Bank no more than an hour or so later. The fuel was cleared from the car. He thanked us for coming so promptly. While we were coming back to the office we noticed two women on the edge of the highway who appeared to have a flat tyre. So we pulled up to help them change it, much to their elation.

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
